The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Széchenyi lánchíd in Hungarian) located in Budapest, Hungary was the first permanent bridge to cross the Danube River in Budapest. At the time of its construction in 1849, it was considered to be one of the world’s engineering wonders. It links the Eastern side, Pest, with the Western side, Buda. The bridge was destroyed during the Siege of Budapest during World War II and was rebuilt in 1949.
