How to Make Your Minecraft Machines Freak Out with Rapid Pulsars

Have you ever felt like Minecraft was too boring?

Nah, me neither.

But every now and then I find myself wanting something to just totally freak out, and when that happens, I use a rapid pulsar! A rapid pulsar will turn on and off very rapidly and irregularly, and it’s the sort of thing you could hook a light up to in order to turn it into a strobe light for a party. Provided that it doesn’t give you an epileptic seizure, it’ll ensure a good time for all.

Here’s a short video about how to make them!

The Breakdown

In case you don’t like building things from video tutorials, here’s the breakdown on how to build them, step by step.

Step 1 Place two blocks

They can be of any variety, but make sure they’re one block-width apart.

Step 2 Add redstone torches

Add redstone torches to both the front and back of each block.

Step 3 Wire it up!

Run wire between the blocks, and over the blocks. Provided that you’ve done it correctly, your redstone should now be properly freaking out!

The Compact Rapid Pulsar

As if the regular rapid pulsar wasn’t compact enough already, here’s an even more streamlined version:

Step 4 Put down repeaters

Put down two repeaters, diagonal from each other, and facing outward. No delay is necessary.

Step 5 Add redstone wires

Connect the two repeaters with a loop of redstone wire.

Step 6 Start it up!

A picture can’t possibly express the technique to start up this version, because it won’t start automatically like the first one. I will refer you again to the video! It’s the same one from the top, just in case you missed it the first time.

  • We’ll use rapid pulsars again in upcoming tutorials, so make sure that you familiarize yourself with how they work.
  • Test them out, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different things!
